As someone who can get a little too much caught up in a ‘true confessions’ trap when looking at unconscious bias, I always admire someone who can talk about stereotypes and prejudice in a way that is humorous, but makes a point. That would be Maz Jobrani, an Iranian-American stand-up comedian who “is breaking down racial cliches with sharp wit, funny stories and clever observations.”
The clip is from an ’07 appearance on Craig Ferguson, but, particularly as relates to stereotypes of Arab-Americans, unfortunately not much as changed. The piece and Jobrani’s comedy is as fresh as ever, as reported in the Australian Courier Mail last week. Love his take on possible bias in car advertisers inclusion of Asian drivers.
