I’m always quick to jump on images OF women in media, but here is a great series on breaking down ads targeted to women. In this critique of yogurt ads, feminist and comedian Sarah Haskins highlights every stereotype of women’s desires/habits possible, from dieting to shopping to shoes.
If you already knew Sarah Haskins…why didn’t you share! If not, she’s wonderful. I look forward to seeing more of her in Target Women, a recurring segment on Current TV’s weekly television show, infoMania, where Haskins takes a look at the “often-ridiculous way the media reaches out to women.”
But it wasn’t a woman who led me to Sarah Haskins. It was a series of men…social media guru Chris Brogan who posted about how to “Prioritize Your Social Media Efforts” which puts reading before writing, hence my finding David Griner on AdFreak, and his post about Sara Haskins in Target Women: Broadview Security.
The process of finding this clip brings us back, full circle, to intercultural communications: Keep your eyes and ears open, and commit to learning something new from everyone you meet. Then you just might.
