Are you excited for 2020 to end and for everything to be different? But change is an active verb. You can hope for the best, but you need to envision the change you want to see as well.
The Three Words to Uplift Your Year
I love “The Three Words” process as recommended by Chris Brogan. Different than resolutions made at midnight and statistically doomed to fail (80%), your three words are more about character or a way of being—things you want to see more or less of in yourself and your business in the coming year. “The My Three Words idea is simple,” says Chris. “Choose 3 words (not 1, not 4) that will help guide your choices and actions day to day. Think of them as lighthouses.”
My words for 2020 were “Deep, Power, Leap.”
Deep (deeper relationships, digging deep on research for writing) and Power (a la Marianne Williamson’s our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure) helped drive success for me in 2020. Leap (as in not being afraid to take risks) was a little more challenging while spending the bulk of the year at home. Although starting a weekly livestream video show (see below) would count in that area.
How Are You Looking for 2021?
What are the things you would like to improve, enhance, and grow in 2021? That’s what will inform your three words. For me, I’ve settled on two. The first is POV. I’m hoping that’s not a “cheat” by sneaking in more words! POV (Point of View) is cited again and again as the starting point for great writing, and in particular satire (I want to write funnier).
The second word is manifest, which I see as a powerful way to envision positive outcomes. That could apply to everything from health to new clients to deeper connections with friends and family. Corny or not, “you have to see it to achieve it.”
I’m still working on the last word. I’m leaning toward money, but it feels a little crass. After all, who doesn’t want money, and I’m so ingrained to think of depth, content, and service first. Here it’s more about being smart with money: investments, retirement, and business growth. I still have a few days to decide.
How about you?
What is your vision for the 2021 that we are all so relieved and exhilarated to see?
