The LaGrange Business Association (LGBA) represents 240 member businesses in this community just southwest of Chicago, recognized twice by Chicago Magazine as one of the “Best Places to Live.” Why? “Our businesses and residents put lots of energy into downtown,” says Village President Thomas Livingston.
And LGBA puts lots of energy into its businesses, to help them succeed and shine.
“Our membership has more than doubled in the past 2-3 years,” says current LGBA Education and Scholarship Chair and President-Elect, Kathy Dierkes, owner of a State Farm Insurance office in La Grange. “One of the drivers of that growth has been our education programs, where we can leverage our collective strength to get top-notch speakers and trainers on topics that are important to members.”
That included hiring Intercultural Talk’s Deanna Shoss to lead a digital marketing workshop entitled “How to Use Social Media to Market Your Business.” The packed-house crowd learned about strategy and tactics for using Linked In, Facebook and Twitter to research prospects, establish thought leadership and connect to clients. The digital marketing workshop also touched on blogging, eNewsletters and video.
“The speaker was so engaging and I learned so much about when and how to use the different social media platforms,” said one participant.
LGBA Members were invited to bring their laptops to discover the power of social media as a way to connect with their customers and professional network. Session topics covered:
“Social media is a hot topic for our members,” says Dierkes. “The feedback from Deanna’s presentation was fantastic. In fact, they want to know when she is coming back!” The LGBA promotes business in LaGrange by working jointly with the business owners and community. The LGBA is also the top advocate and voice of LaGrange businesses to the Village of LaGrange and other government bodies. The LaGrange Business Association sponsors many events throughout the year that have proven to be a great way to encourage community support for local businesses.
